Starting Something New

I have wanted to participate in the 365 photo challenge for years now. The motivation for some reason was just never there. This year something is different. I made the choice to do this back at the end of January but knew I couldn’t just start the next day, I had to have rules, I had to have a place to post since I’m not on social media right now, but most importantly I had to have my WHY!

For the past year our family (mainly my husband and I) have basically been in FIGHT OR FLIGHT mode as we waited to find out if we would be adopting our younger daughter – spoiler, she became ours on Dec 20th – and so of course being in any sort of creative mindset was not happening. I know a lot of artists will fall INTO their craft in situations like those, but I fell away. It hurt every fiber of my being since I know that this is a gift I have been given from the Lord. And for over 26 years I just keep coming back to it. So, I decided as I face down 40 that I should make a change and hone the craft I love so much.

Like I said, I needed to set myself up for success, I came up with the rules I need to follow, set up my website and set my initial date for posting – my 40th birthday. Below are my rules…

  • Take a photo everyday
  • Edit everyday
  • Post 7 photos every Friday with their dates
  • Have 1 self portrait a week
  • Have 1 set up still life a week
  • Pick a weekly theme to keep myself out of a rut

Here’s to 365 days of cultivating creativity.
